New Orleans

The first time I visited New Orleans was to volunteer post-Katrina.  I was living in Brooklyn back then and I didn’t think there was anywhere else in the world that I could love more.  I was wrong.  New Orleans wins every time.

A woman I met there told me that New Orleanians have a saying: if you walk barefoot in New Orleans, you’ll never leave. To this day I regret not taking off my shoes.
